We all have our lapses of judgment. But some of us make such horrendously poor decisions that one simply has to ask, “What were they on?”. Every week we bring you three contenders in what can only be described as a battle of small wits. So, with great pleasure we present this week’s three La Fee Absinthe-Minded Moment of the Week finalists. Inside we have the Cathay Pacific pilot and stewardess, French children’s lingerie, and municipal strikers. But who claims the prize for the most mindbogglingly foolish tomfoolery of the week? Click through to find out!
Third place – Cathay Pacific pilot and stewardess
Airline company, Cathay Pacific, has fired a pilot and a stewardess after images of the two engaging in oral sex in one of their planes cockpits were posted online last week and began to circumnavigate the interweb. Initially it was believed to be a malicious stunt aimed at derailing a new marketing campaign whereby airline staff would feature on billboards and other related printed advertising materials. The tag line: “the team who go the extra mile to make you feel special.” Indeed, very special. Cathay Pacific has since issued a statement confirming the images are authentic but that the plane was not in flight when the photos were taken. Next time, pilot and stewardess, lay off the absinthe because this doesn’t even count as making it into the mile high club.
Second place – French lingerie line for young girls
This week 2oceanVibe learnt about a new French lingerie line, Jours Après Lunes, which is for girls between the ages of four and 12. Basically, it looks like lingerie and is being advertised like lingerie, so we just don’t buy the payoff that it’s supposed to be some kind of loungewear for younger ladies. The company is trying to pass it off as “the first designer brand dedicated to ‘loungerie’ for children and teenagers.” The line has however been crossed in our humble opinion because four-year-olds just shouldn’t be hanging out and posing in bras and panties…with nothing over them. They shouldn’t even know about this kind of thing. Less absinthe, France, please, you have more pressing issues like your banks.
The winner – Municipal strikers
Earlier this week municipal workers, consisting mainly of South African Municipal Workers’ Union members, embarked on a violent strike in Cape Town. They literally trashed the inner parts of the City and areas surrounding parliament, lit fires, damaged property and proceeded to have a looting session. Samwu members have since been prohibited from damaging city and private property and looting, and police have the full support from authorities to act in whatever way is necessary to curb further trouble. The City of Cape Town is not opposed to striking, but prefers if strikers don’t consume bottles of absinthe before doing so.
