How often are you told that a South African accent is hot? Or, on the contrary, that it’s quite dreadful?  A not-very-scientific survey conducted by CNN Go among Facebook users has revealed some of the accents considered to be most attractive from around the world.  Suffice it to say, the Seffrican accent does not feature in the top 12.

Here is CNN’s list of the top twelve sexiest accents revealed by the survey, as epitomised by famous tongues:

1. Italian – Monica Bellucci (likened to the sound made by ‘a Ferrari saxophone’.  Sexy.)

2. French – Sophie Marceau

3. Spanish – Penelope Cruz

4. Czech – Petra Nemcova

5. Nigerian – King Sunny Adé

6. Irish – Colin Farrell (‘a marauding pixie’)

7. Oxford British – Sienna Miller (really?)

8. U.S Southern – Matthew McConaughey (sounds like ‘molasses taking a smoking break’)

9. Brazilian Portuguese – Alic Braga

10. Trinidadian – Billy Ocean

11. Thai – Tony Jaa

12. Argentine – Gabriela Sabatini

Other popular accents amongst the small sample polled included Australian (what?) and Japanese.
