About 1 000 Thai dogs – destined to be cooked and eaten in Vietnam – escaped a gruesome fate when they were rescued by police before the weekend. As you’ll see from the video, they were stuffed into tiny cages and stacked high in scores of crates.
Livestock officials in Nakhon Phanom confirmed 1 011 dogs were being looked after at a government shelter. Another 119 died from suffocation in the cramped cages or from trauma sustained after being thrown into the trucks as the fleeing traffickers tried to speed away.
Two Thai men and a Vietnamese man have been charged with trafficking and the illegal transportation of animals.
Even though the story has a happy ending, please be warned that the visuals are very disturbing.
