You’re going to love this story. Remember the guy who spilled his drink on the President during the Durban July last year? Well he’s been found guilty of assault.
The magistrate who heard the case, Gugu Mphikeleli, wanted to keep Daryl Peense in custody, but after some haggling he got bail of R500.
Peense said that he was found guilty on the basis of Zuma’s bodyguard’s statement, which stated that Peense had intended to spill his drink on Zuma, and that he saw the liquid falling.
But it seems that the bodyguards who testified couldn’t get their stories straight, as one said in a statement that he saw the liquid touch Zuma, but in court he said it didn’t.
Peense has attempted sending a letter of apology to the President’s office, but to no avail. He also says that he doesn’t even know who laid the complaint, and no one seems to want to tell him.
Right then.
