Earlier this week Seth told you about the Give Respect, Get Respect campaign in America – an attempt to promote harmony between cyclists and motorists. It seems four- and two-wheeled road users in the UK might also benefit from this message. After seeing a video of himself assaulting a cyclist on the internet, a motorist has now offered his apology, saying he is “severely embarrassed.”
John Nicholls got out of his vehicle and hit cyclist Simon Page after said cyclist slapped his car “in order to let him know he was driving too close.” Unfortunately, Nicholls was driving to a church at the time. Why? To make funeral arrangements for his mother, who had died the week before. As you can imagine, not the perfect time for a cyclist to “slap his car”.
The attack was filmed by another cyclist who was wearing a head camera and later posted it on YouTube. As you’ll see from the video below, Page was luckily not hurt too badly as he was wearing his cycling helmet at the time:
