Cope Founder’s Furniture Attached By Sheriff To Pay Legal Costs

When Cope founder, Mbhazima Shilowa, named himself president of the Congress of the People, little did he think that he and his furniture would be taken to the cleaners to cover the legal ramifications. Political rival Mosiuoa Lekota won a court ruling last year which prevented Shilowa from using the Cope president title, and lumped him with an order to pay R72,000 in legal costs.

The sheriff of the court has now attached several of the assets at Shilowa’s home in Roodepoort, including a fridge, a washing machine, two lounge suites and two wall units nogal.

Shilowa’s spokesperson, Sipho Ngwema, has confirmed that while the assets were attached to be auctioned off, the legal costs have in fact already been settled and the goods would be returned.  Still, rather embarrassing for Mbhazima – he just wanted to be president of something, not lose his fridge.
