I do feel sorry for the people out there who didn’t play the EuroMillions lottery over the last couple of weeks, as it rolled over and over, resulting in a jackpot of R1.8 Million (EUR 182 Million). They bitched and moaned about how stupid it was to enter the lottery, while we discussed buying $100 million private jets and islands in the Bahamas.
Do you know how small the chances are of winning that thing? Yes, my friend, we do. And they’re a lot smaller without a ticket. Shame on you for not having the ability to dream. Good luck with that attitude.
This couple from Scotland also knew the chances were small. In fact their chances were exactly the same as our chances of winning (you can buy EuroMillions lottery tickets from anywhere in the world here). And check it out – they won! But you know what? If they didn’t have a ticket, it would never have happened. Fact.
Says here on SKY News:
Lottery jackpot winners ‘tickled pink’
A Scottish couple out of work due to ill health are Europe’s biggest ever lottery winners, scooping 185 million euros ($A245.39 million) in the EuroMillions jackpot.
Colin Weir, 64, and his wife Chris, 55, who have been married for 30 years and live in the seaside town of Largs near Glasgow, claimed the prize after Tuesday’s draw which followed a series of rollovers.
The prize catapaulted them into 430th place in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List for Britain.
‘We were tickled pink,’ Chris Weir, a former psychiatric nurse, said as the couple faced the press for the first time after waiving their right to anonymity.
‘I even had a glass of white wine, which is something I normally only do at Christmas. It really is unbelievable.’
Colin Weir, a former TV cameraman and studio manager, appeared slightly dazed by the attention.
‘When we first realised we had won, it felt like a dream. But it feels like a good thing; something we should not be afraid of but for us to enjoy with the children,’ he said.
The Weirs said they will buy homes for their daughter Carly, 24, a photography student, and their son Jamie, 22, who works in a call centre. Their children will also take their first driving lessons, they said.
Yeah, I bet they will take driving lessons. In a Bugatti! God, can you imagine their son – quietly resigning from his call centre job at 22, buying a private jet and a yacht and planning his first orgy. So much to look forward to!
Do yourself a favour and play the overseas lotteries. They’re usually over R100 million and often get up to R1 Billion.
If you’re not buying a few tickets for the big draws (and these are BIG), then you’ve kind of missed the whole point of being able to live the holiday. Just like what is suggested in all books about success (including the likes of “The Secret” and variations thereof), if you’re not able to visualise the success you wish to achieve, then you probably won’t get there. Being able to dream is the basis of all of these formulas – it unlocks the potential. Dropping a few bucks on lottery tickets is as basic as that formula gets.
