Lucky New Yorkers witnessed an amazing solar phenomenon where the suns sets in alignment with the city’s skyscrapers. The effect is similar to that seen in England at Stonehenge. Welcome all to Manhattanhenge.
This strange phenomenon occurs twice a year and is captured by photographers who set their gear up at carefully chosen spots across the city to catch the ultimate sunset.
Yesterday at 20:25, the east-west lying streets of the city’s famous grid system lined up neatly with the setting sun, creating floods of light to spill through the gaps between buildings.
Similar henge phenomena can be seen in other citys with large numbers of skyscrapers and long straight streets, such as Chicago, Montreal and Toronto.
