Many moons ago, Jan Braai set off on an incredible 40-day, cross country adventure. The mission was to criss-cross South Africa, visiting at least one National Heritage Site per day. And by “visiting” we of course mean “braaing at”. The entire adventure was documented for dsTV’s KykNet channel, and has been packaged into a great show, titled Jan Braai Vir Erfenis [“Jan Braais For Heritage”].
Jan and his team set out from Cape Town, and 2oceansVibe was incredibly proud to be paid a visit by Jan on the first leg of his tour, in the Mother City.
The first episode of the adventure aired last Friday, July 8, and featured:
Jan doing the Argus and stopping for a braai on Suikerbossie (as one does)
Jan braaing on Table Mountain
Jan braaing in Stellenbosch at De Akker with Valiant Swart
Jan braaing at the Muisbosskerm in Lambertsbay
Jan braaing at 2oceansVibe headquarters with Seth Rotherham, to launch the Rotherhamburger
“I’m sorry, did you say the ‘Rotherhamburger?'”
Why yes, I did. There is such a thing as a Rotherhamburger. Says Jan:
Before leaving Cape Town on the morning of day 2 we braaied with my friend Seth Rotherham, the man behind the hugely popular 2oceansvibe.com website and GQ’s best dressed man of 2010. He is the spokesman for the laid-back Cape Town lifestyle and has even had a Butlers pizza named after him. In this spirit we decided to launch the Rotherhamburger. It is a decadent chicken burger topped with feta, bacon, mozzarella and salami.
And I can tell you, it is delicious.
What’s that you say? You’d like a recipe for that? No, look, of course.
Catch Jan Braai Vir Erfenis on KykNet every Friday at 17h30, and for those with office jobs there is a repeat on Saturdays at 13h00. There are two other repeats, but at times so tough to remember, we cannot remember, and neither can Jan.
If die taal is completely foreign to you, you probably won’t get a fair bit of the show, but the average guy and girl will get it.
