The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple
The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in India – dedicated to the god Vishnu – was built in 1566. Secret vaults have now been found, containing more than R74 billion in offerings to the temple! All these shiny coins, jewelry, and even a six meter-long gold necklace have been secretly hoarded in underground vaults. This is like the Indian version of Gringotts in Harry Potter!
The different avatars of Vishnu.
The temple is in the southern Kerala state, near the tip of the subcontinent. Kerala Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar says the value given is merely a ball park figure and that archaeological officials would have to examine the discovery in detail to determine its actual value. The treasure was found in at least five underground vaults. He also mentioned that one more secret chamber remained to be opened.
This really makes one wonder – how much must be in the vaults of the Vatican?
