Fans of Japanese Girl band AKB48 were shocked to learn that the band’s newest member, Aimi Eguchi, is actually a Computer Generated fake, built from the features of the other members.
Apparently, fans became suspicious when she was chosen to do an ice-lolly ad campaign, something that is usually given to more popular members of the group.
You would think that after eight hit singles and a Guinness world record, for the most members in a pop group, that people may have caught on. And then there’s the name of the group, AKB48, which sounds like the scientific name for sunlight liquid.
The hoax was revealed when management released a video of her creation. Which brings me to my next thought – WTF.
From now on every time you see a woman onscreen that’s a little too perfect, you might find yourself muttering the words “made in Japan”.
