I have always loved Monty Python. I grew up on Monty Python. I wouldn’t be who I am today without the Pythons. And now they’re all back together again, sort of, to make a film based on the memoirs of the late, great Graham Chapman.
“A Liar’s Autobiography” will feature all but two of the Pythons. Eric Idle hasn’t signed up and author Graham Chapman was unavailable, primarily because he’s dead. But John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and Terry Jones are all contributing their voice talent to the movie, which opens next year. Although he wasn’t able to make any new recordings, the producers will be using some material Chapman recorded back in 1980, when his book first came out.
Terry Jones joked that he had “no idea”, until recently, that Chapman was dead and “thought he was just being lazy”. He then said:
“However, I am now delighted to find myself working with him again on this exciting project.”
Co-directory Jeff Simpson said that Chapman, who died of Cancer in 1989, would be would be pleased “his work is being re-imagined in glorious 3D – he always loved wearing silly glasses”.
I’m actually kind of sad it’s in 3D. I don’t like 3D. It’s crap, but I’ll grin and bear it. Graham Chapman was brilliant and I’m glad he’s finally making his big comeback.
