With team names like Hell’s Angelfish and Gold Fusion, it was always going to be hard to take this seriously. They’ve chosen to call the sport Formula Three Freediving, or F3F, and it’s taken very seriously it seems.
Using underwater dive scooters to propel themselves, racing is as much about strategy as it is about being a good freediver who can hold one’s breath for extended periods.
Races include a slalom drag race over 100m, a 30 lap race around a wreck and a three course rally race along a reef.
It actually looks quite fun, minus the ridiculous slow motion stuff the videographer works into the production.
