Princess Diana has risen from the dead, on the front cover of Newsweek in a picture that shows her walking in town with her new daughter-in-law, Kate. Creepy much?
“Shocking, brilliant or just plain cheap?” asked the Los Angeles Times. The news blog Mediaite.com called it “Disrespectful on so many levels”, and The Atlantic Wire ran the headline “How Creepy is Princess Diana’s Ghost?”.
The story, written by Newsweek editor-in-chief and Diana biographer, Tina Brown, has caused outrage amongst readers and newsstand passers-by.
The cover photo shows Di walking with Kate, still thin and glamorous, if somewhat wrinkled. But what a bad Photoshop job; it looks like the wrong head was stuck on a Barbie doll.
The article speculates that Diana would have been twice re-married, used Botox, and be somewhat jealous of her daughter-in-law Kate.
Brown writes that she’d have moved to New York, become friends with Charles and Camilla and have ten million followers on Twitter.
Brown even suggests what her Facebook page might be like. She imagines that Di would have “liked” “The King’s Speech” and “The Real Housewives of New York”. She would also be hanging out with David and Victoria Beckham and receiving supportive messages from spiritualist Deepak Chopra.
But perhaps the most controversial aspect of the article is the suggestion that Diana would be jealous of kate:
The rising public adoration of Kate would have afforded Diana some tricky moments. Pleased, yes. But….Diana would have had to adjust to a broadening of the limelight.
