This scary looking creature is, in fact, a dog. Its short, patchy pieces of hair, spindly, hairless little legs and protruding tongue were enough to ensure that “Yoda” now officially holds the title: “World’s Ugliest Dog”.

This 14-year-old Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix, won this prestigious award at the 23^rd annual contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair in California on Friday.

It’s owner Terry Schumacher says that the rodent-like creature has come a long way since being found abandoned behind an apartment building. Initially she thought the “dog” was a rat.

It seems there’s a definite trend in recent years as the award went to a one-eyed Chihuahua named “Princess Abby” last year and a pedigree Chinese crested in 1998. Another Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix won the title in 2007.

Dogs have identical DNA to wolves, so technically this hideous beast could be called a wolf. But what would you rather face in the dead of night, a wolf, or this horror? I know what my answer would be.
