Deputy Science and Technology Minister, Derek Hannekom, has tweeted that struggle veteran, civil servant, and celebrated academic, Kader Asmal, has passed away.

The ANC’s Tony Ehrenreich and John Maytham confirmed that Asmal passed away last night following a heart attack. Asmal was a vocal critic of the proposed Protection of Information Bill. He was 76 years old.
