Whenever I report on stories originating from certain parts of the United States, I find myself gently shaking my head, muttering, “You just can’t make this shit up.”
The story goes that this emmenthal-emulating Porsche 911 suffered a spectacular mechanical failure, taking out most of the engine and the automatic gearbox. This is something Porsche’s don’t do often; they are particularly well made vehicles. Regardless, the cost of the repair was way more than the market value of the car, so the owner decided to donate it to charity.
The charity he chose was a gun-rights protection charity, fighting for “some sanity in Massachusetts gun laws” – and judging by the video, the sort of sanity they’re after is the type that allows you to keep massive automatic weapons in your bedroom cupboard.
Apparently 140 shooting enthusiasts turned up for the event, and conservative estimates put the number of rounds fired at 10 000. Although if you look at how many hit the dirt in front of the car, maybe this poor 911 only took about 8000 of those.
