In a seriously bizarre story, a Virginia inmate, named Ophelia De’lonta, is suing the US Federal Government for the right to have a sex change after “she” failed on numerous occasions to castrate herself.

First off, I’m not sure whether to use “he” or “she”. A person with a penis usually implies “he”, but hell, if she wants to be called a “she”, who am I to judge?

Anyway, 50-year old De’lonta says the surgery is necessary to treat her gender identity disorder. In the lawsuit, De’lonta claims that the state has failed its duty to provide for her medical care, by not granting her a sex change. So far, Ophelia has been granted a court order to have hormone treatment that has already yielded a noticeable pair of breasts.

In October last year she used a disposable razor in an attempt to castrate herself, although how a “she” can castrate herself has me very confused. In fact, this whole gender story is just beyond comprehension.

Apparently, her attempts at castration began at the tender age of 12, and by 17 she was robbing banks in the hope of securing the cash to finance a sex change. By the age of 18 however, she’d been sentenced to 70 years in prison for armed robbery, possession of drugs and weapons and a number of other charges.

I don’t know, I kind of hope she gets the surgery.
