Cisco have just come out with their annual Visual Networking Index, which is a pretty reliable source of internet traffic reporting. Global traffic will quadruple, by 2015, with Asia’s traffic generation overtaking North America. Which is cool, but less cool than the stuff they say about traffic in South Africa, which is after the jump.
So check it – in 2015:
- Total South African web traffic will be seven times that of 2010.
- Mobile traffic will increase by a factor of 37, against a global increase of 21.
- Online video traffic will be nine times that of 2010.
- Online gaming traffic will be 13 times that of 2010.
And yes, I know, numbers are dull etc. but this is crazy good for South African telecoms – we’re pretty much on par for growth rate with the rest of BRICS. This is especially exciting given that businesses are expected to see the biggest increase in traffic generation – the companies you like are discovering the internet, friends.
You can tool around with the raw data here if you’d like – it’s pretty neat.
