It has been confirmed that the Hawks and the South African Revenue Services have raided the home of the controversial Durban tycoon, Sbu Mpisane and his wife Shaun on Wednesday morning. You’ll know the guy that I’m speaking about – the dude whose wife bought him a Maserati GranCabrio for his 40th recently.
Yes, that guy and his wife that throw, err that used to throw the ridiculously lavish parties in the plush Durban suburb of La Lucia.
It is alleged that the couple owe something in the region of R50 million to Sars, but there are also forensic investigations being conducted into their general financial affairs.
Durban’s The Mercury newspaper has reported that three cars have already been confiscated from the couple – a Rolls Royce Phantom convertible that Mpisane had unveiled at a 2010 New Years Eve bash and his two prized Lamborghinis. The three vehicles alone were worth a cool R17 million.
Not to worry though, I’m sure they’ll be returning for the Aston Martin Vanquish S, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti grand tourer, a Porsche Turbo, a Maserati Pininfarina, BMW 750i, a BMW X6M and of course the GranCabrio.
Maserati GranCabrio… Impressive.
The one-time Durban metro police officer actually rolled in a manner superior to anything Magnum PI could ever have imagined to roll in himself.
The couple also rocketed to the headlines recently when they spared little expense on their 20th wedding anniversary party.
Have a look at this video of the whole affair if you’re interested. Splendid time indeed:
However, the real spice is that more than 1 000 of the 3 000 houses built by a company owned by Mpisane were defective.
The company is called Zikhulise Cleaning and Transport, and the only cleaning seems to have been of bank accounts, and the only transportation achieved was of an alleged tenderpreneur and his wife in some of the finest rides the world can offer.
The company allegedly received R219 million in 2009 from the eThekwini municipality to build low-income houses on 4 500 sites in Umlazi.
A total of 30% of the defects were serious and would require major renovations.
Thankfully this comes on the back of Pravin Gordhan’s announcement that the Treasury would begin monitoring all tenders priced above R500 000, because this, friends, is how you go from eating Michelin-star cuisine to brown bread and jam.
