Zimbabwean defence minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has told the Zimbabwean parliament that China will put up the money for the completion of the Robert Mugabe School of Intelligence. It’s not clear how and when the money will be repaid by the Zimbabwean government, who’s debt to China is now about US$1.65 billion.
A mid-ranking intelligence source told The Zimbabwean that the College will effectively recruit from the entire SADC region to produce a range of experts.
Please enjoy some of the job titles Bob’s School of Intelligence will be producing:
Cryptologic Linguists, Signals Intelligence Analysts, Human Intelligence Collectors, Military Intelligence (MI) Systems Maintainers and Integrators, Counterintelligence Agents, Imagery Analysts, Common Ground Station (CGS) Analysts, Intelligence Analysts, Signals Collectors or Analysts.
What is most worrying is the fact that all this knowledge will be provided by Chinese instructors. Let’s also not brush aside the fact that this kind of money could be spent in far better ways.
Outlining the project’s finer details, Mnangagwa offered the following information:
The college will provide senior military officers with intellectual tools to address complex defence and national security challenges which in turn will contribute to national security.
Construction of the National Defence College is now underway and we hope to complete the project in the next three years.
This college will act as a think tank for providing research on military, defence and national security for the National Security Council, Ministry of Defence and other government organizations.
The College is going to be offering a Bachelor of Science in Intelligence and a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence; although it isn’t yet clear how employers outside of Bob’s circle of trust will look upon these new qualifications.
And as always, it wouldn’t be Bob enough of Bob to relinquish total control so he included the rule that only invited candidates would be enrolled into the college.
