We all have our lapses of judgment. But some of us make such horrendously poor decisions that one simply has to ask, “What were they on?”. Every week we bring you three contenders in what can only be described as a battle of small wits. So, with great pleasure we present this week’s three La Fee Absinthe-Minded Moment of the Week finalists. Inside we have Steve Hofmeyr, Facebook, and the African National Congress. But who claims the prize for the most mindbogglingly foolish tomfoolery of the week? Click through to find out!
Third place: Facebook
Details emerged this week of a dirty press campaign run by Facebook against increasingly-threatening competitor, Google. Facebook admitted to hiring PR firm, Burston-Marsteller to encourage bloggers and independent media outlets to publish negatively biased stories on Google’s privacy policies. These facts come to light in the face of increasing global criticism of Facebook’s willingness to part with users’ private details for a fee. Blind, Facebook.
Second place: The ANC
The run up to the municipal elections on May 18 has not been kind to the ANC. After mercilessly pillorying the DA for failing to enclose a few hundred toilets in Makhaza, details emerged that the ANC was aware of some 1600 unenclosed toilets in various ANC-run municipalities in the Free State. Add to that the threat of spiritual abandonment should voters fail to place their “X” next to an ANC candidate’s face, and you have what we call a “week to forget”.
The Winner: Steve Hofmeyr
One Steve “Die Pompmasjien” Hofmeyr managed to keep his cup of offense running over with the addition of a k-bomb to the lyrics his latest single. Which means that we should start combing Neil Diamond’s lyrics for previously-unnoticed racial slurs… What were you thinking, Steve? You must surely have been drinking absinthe.
Until next week, fairies!
