This is perhaps the most macabre crime story I’ve ever heard. A South Korean man was found dead, on a cross, wearing a crown of thorns. Although police had declined to release further details, the press in South Korea depicted the gruesome scene with the man wearing a crown of thorns, dressed only in his underpants.
Allegedly he put nails in the cross first, then drilled holes in his hands and hung himself on the cross. Police found nails, a hammer, an electric drill and pieces of wood near the body, as well as instructions for building a cross. There was also a note from the man.
The man was found ten days after Good Friday, his cross flanked by two smaller crosses, mimicking the crucifixion of Jesus.
According to a Catholic commentator this act is known as “red martyrdom”, literally following the suffering of Jesus Christ. All I can say is that this is incredibly disturbing.
