A new iPhone game that’s been developed by a company from Boston, and that allows users to drive a truck full of immigrants through the desert while trying to prevent them from getting thrown out of the vehicle, has understandably been rejected by Apple Inc. The bigoted game can still be downloaded for PC’s and Mac’s though.
The developer, Owlchemy Labs, stated on Thursday that the Apple App Store had turned down the game and Alex Schwartz, of Owlchemy Labs, didn’t give details on the rejection but said it was content-related.
According to the Smuggle Truck website:
Smuggle Truck is an over-the-top physics-based driving game where you must save your passengers by smuggling them across the border in the least amount of time.
Tilt your truck, catch newborn babies, drive over armadillos, and rocket your way through hills, caverns, deserts, and forests to save the people!
The site goes on to explain the reasoning behind the animated games development:
With such a troublesome issue being largely avoided in popular media, especially video games, we felt the best way to criticize it was with an interactive satire.
With a satirical angle on a real issue, we want to create a game that is fun to play but also stirs up discussion on ways to improve the problematic immigration system in the United States.
The game has so far produced mixed reactions for the way it has decided to portray the plight of would-be immigrants to the US, with obvious polarising debates in favour of it, and those that are against it.
