This new feature will be available to all Facebook users and it’s been designed to make sharing easier, and a little more private. Its social networking architecture will work best with Facebook’s Groups function that was introduced last October, but don’t expect it to make streamlined advertising any harder either.
Facebook sums up the evolution of the new “Send” button:
A year ago, we launched the Like button, which gives you a quick way to share the things you find on the web with all your friends. But there are times when you find something that you only want to share with a few specific people.
The Send Button will allow users to send content to friends more efficiently and they will also have the option to send the URL in an inbox message. On top of this they can send to a group wall of any Facebook group they are a member of, and as an email to any email address.
Of course this represents an opportunity to make use of a new tool to share what you want with who you want because it’s just not necessary to tell everyone everything.
So, you could create a group for just your close mates and then keep one another posted on things that would only be relevant to them.
According to Facebook, 50 million people have already started using Groups and this is yet another step in the direction of a more liberal Facebook of the future.
The button will appear next to the “Like” button on websites that feature Facebook integration and it will begin to appear on an interweb new you shortly.
