That’s poor Janet down there.
This is surely a holiday this poor lady will never forget. After taking ill on a cruise ship exploring Norway, paramedics were called in to take Janet Richardson from Britain to a hospital on the main land. But in the process of transporting her they accidentally dropped her into the minus three degrees Celsius North Sea. She is 73.
Her husband explains:
“I thought I was going to lose her. When they tried to move her onto the lifeboat the ship was still moving and they tried to keep the lifeboat close to the side. But then the rear of the lifeboat moved away from the main ship. There were six men on the stretcher but it went down and Janet slipped into the sea. I just saw the end of the stretcher go in. It was very traumatic. They gave her mouth to mouth on the dockside and got her going again. Her temperature was very low having been in the water but luckily they managed to get that back up.”
It then took almost eight minutes to pull her from the water. She was eventually transported to hospital in Bodø and stayed there for several days before she was airlifted to back to the UK. She’s doing fine now and is busy recovering.
