We are mere days away from the most important event in human history: the wedding of HRH Prince William to the commoner, Kate Middleton. To celebrate (cash-in on) this wonderful occasion, the Lifetime Network in the US has created “William and Kate”, a sort-of true story of the couple’s romance.
I’m sure you’ve already purchased as much royal memorabilia as possible. I know I’ve already sent away for my William and Kate potpourri holder, and my William and Kate scatter cushions already adorn the living room. But now I’ve got even more to look forward to. The Lifetime Network has created a for-TV movie of Kate and William’s love life. Apparently it’s incredibly bad. So bad, in fact, that it’ll probably be a huge success. Director Mark Rosman didn’t really have reality in mind when creating his masterpiece, but hey, why let the truth spoil a good story?
There are plot holes everywhere and the continuity is terrible. No, really, it is. For instance, London buses are seen on the wrong side of the road, probably because the film was shot entirely in Beverly Hills. The acting has been decribed as wooden at best.
Andrew Billen of The Times wrote that the film was “glorious kitsch that’s too ridiculous to offend.”
And the Guardian Newspaper said, “So bad it’s awful, toe-curlingly, teeth-furringly, pillow-bitingly ghastly.”
In one scene Kate catches William’s eye during a fashion shoot where she’s wearing a sheer dress. William turns to his friends and says, “Kate’s Hot”. In another scene, a friend warns Kate that William could never fall for her. She then gives the camera a smouldering stare and says, “He’s just a guy.” The movie was released in the US last night.
I will be finding a copy for my collection as soon as possible.
