YouTube is becoming your mother. Starting Thursday, if you upload something that violates copyright law you’ll be forced to watch a video telling you just how naughty you’ve been.
The video, entitled YouTube Copyright School, is wonderfully patronizing way of educating the masses as to why breaking copyright is evil. In order to upload any further videos, the user will have to complete a quiz created by YouTube.
Google Senior Product Counsel Lance Kavanaugh said:
Requiring that people complete Copyright School after receiving a copyright notification means they’ll understand why their actions were wrong, come away with a better understanding of the law, and be more likely to comply with YouTube’s guidelines in future.
I don’t know if treating people like children is really the right way to go here, even if the video does have “Happy Tree Friends” in it.
