Jacob Barnett has an IQ of 170. According to some, this is reportedly higher than Albert Einstein’s was, although Einstein himself never took the test. Jake is now so far advanced in his Indiana University studies that professors are lining him up for a paid PHD research role. He also finished high school at eight years old.
Institute for Advanced Study Professor, Scott Tremaine, wrote an email to the family expressing how he feels about all the showboating:
I’m impressed by his interest in physics and the amount that he has learned so far. The theory that he’s working on involves several of the toughest problems in astrophysics and theoretical physics.
Anyone who solves these will be in line for a Nobel Prize.
Jake can solve up to 200 numbers of Pi, and what’s more, he taught himself calculus, algebra and geometry in a reported two weeks.
When he was younger he was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a mild form of autism that restricts social interaction but can lead to repetitive behaviour when it comes to a certain interest.
As a result his parents thought he might have problems at school. Instead, they were astonished when he started solving 5 000 piece puzzles by the age of three.
Einstein only published his Theory of Relativity when he was 26 and Jake is still your average 12 year old boy, a short way away from his 13th birthday.
He enjoys watching things on the Discovery and History Channel’s as well as hanging out with his girlfriend. He has his mom to thank for posting the YouTube videos that have placed him in the best position to be heard by similarly intelligent and remarkable individuals.
Here he is hanging out with his mom in the kitchen, explaining something to do with Relativity:

On Relativity he remarks, “I’m still working on that. I have an idea, but… I’m still working out the details.”
As one does.
