Heritage Auctions sold a 1997 edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for $29, 875. A book that you can remember the release of just sold at a rare books auction. You’re Old now. If you can’t remember 1997, please crawl back into the womb.

Granted, this is from the first Bloomsbury print run of about 500 copies, so the rarity makes for expensiveness, and in the same auction the comic featuring Superman’s second appearance sold for $143, 400 – which puts geeky willingness to spend huge amounts of money on pop culture stuff in perspective.

Still. If one of you kids had been willing to read in 1997, you could be two hundred grand up right about now.
