Oh boy. The Nelson Mandela Foundation, which is apparently under some financial stress, is launching a Mandela-themed designer line, dubbed the 46664 Apparel line. Shwe-shwe material and brightly-coloured golf shirts feature prominently, because that’s what Mandela’s about.
The understanding is that profits from the Seardel-designed project will sustain the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s charitable initiatives – the foundation has struggled recently to support development agencies in Ghana, Tanzania and Mozambique.
All of which sounds lovely, but if we’re looking at R200 for a t-shirt, I’m not sold on the accessibility of the clothing line, bright colours irrespective.
