Clearly not satisfied with the launch of their English magazine, Inspire, which first appeared about nine months ago, and included a feature called “How to make a bomb in the kitchen of your Mom”, al Qaeda’s media arm has followed up with a magazine for women, titled “Al-Shamikha”. Apparently the editorial team will be mixing beauty tips with lessons in jihad. No spice.
Comprised of 31 pages, “The Majestic Woman” (translated title) features a post-it of a niqab-clad woman and a machine gun on its first cover.
Similar to its perceived competition, the glossy will include tips on finding the right jihadist man (“Marrying A Mujahid”), and advice on how to achieve a perfect complexion (stay inside with your face covered). As an afterthought, the magazine will also provide advice on first aid and etiquette.
The editors’ foreword is a follows:
Because women constitute half of the population – and one might even say that they are the population since they give birth to the next generation – the enemies of Islam are bent on preventing the Muslim woman from knowing the truth about her religion and her role, since they know all too well what would happen if women entered the field of jihad… The nation of Islam needs women who know the truth about their religion and about the battle and its dimensions and know what is expected of them.
In case you’re not quite ready for such radical reading as the editorial preamble suggests, Al-Shamikha’s first issue also argues the good and bad of honey facemasks and crusades against “towelling too forcibly.”
