THE PUT FOOT RALLY 2011
What is the Put Foot Rally 2011? Is it a race? No. Is it a test of survival and endurance? Maybe. Is it an epic African Adventure with challenges around every corner, a chance to taste different cultures, traditions and languages, and the most incredible opportunity to experience Africa in its purest and wildest form? ABSOLUTELY!!
Crews may choose any vehicle and follow a route of their choice as they attempt to get through 7 Countries, 7 Checkpoints, 7 Parties and 7200km in 17 Days! This is a journey that places each individual at the heart of their own personal voyage to discover why Africa is loved, admired and respected.
The Put Foot Rally will expose all 100 Crews to the essence of each unique African country that they venture into. Strategi c checkpoints will place Crew Members at the heart of Namibia’s Etosha Park, Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Zambia’s Victoria Falls, Malawi’s Lake Malawi, Mozambique’s tropical paradise and nature’s bushveld asylum, Swaziland’s Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary.
At each checkpoint ,Crews will indulge in the indigenous flavours of local cuisine and traditional beverages before partying the night away to the rhythm that beats the African drum, then eventually surrendering to each individual’s personal space under the African night-sky.
WHERE & WHEN?
Registration Days will be held in Cape Town and Johannesburg at the spiritual homes of South African motorsport; Killarney and Kyalami Race Tracks. At dawn on 22 June 2011, Cape Town Crews will start their engines and begin lining up on the grid for a lap of the famous circuit before departing on the inaugural Put Foot Rally. Johannesburg Crews will receive the same treatment, leaving the concrete jungle of Jozi on 23 June 2011.In a cloud of dust and fuelled by a free spirit and thirst for adventure, participants will begin an unassisted journey which will take them halfway across Africa in search of their Checkpoints, and finally to the finish in Swaziland on 8 & 9 July 2011.
WHY?
Whether this is your first time into Africa, a gap year, a team-building expedition or even a corporate incentive trip, The Put Foot Rally promises to be the catalyst that will lure you out of your comfort zone and take you on a journey of personal adventure and discovery. A journey that will test you, challenge you, give you enough freedom to make mistakes and find your own solutions , but also a journey that will lead you to the pot of gold of each country and leave you with a sense of pride and achievement that no package tour will ever offer.GIVING BACK TO AFRICA
Mountainshak Adventures have partnered with The Bobs for Good Foundation who will be channelling all their energy and enthusiasm into ‘Shoe Drops’, where the emphasis is on providing school children at pre-identified schools along the routes with brand new school shoes. These shoes are special—they have reflector strips on the back and under the laces so that motorists will be able to see the children on dark winter mornings and at night as they walk to and from school. The Bobs for Good Foundation is a South African Public Beneficiary Organisation, founded by former Springbok captain, Bob Skinstad, and super globetrotter, Ron Rutland. The Bobs for Good vision is to provide brand new, quality leather, South African made school shoes to some of the country’s learners who do not have adequate footwear. Shoes mean children can walk to school without discomfort, cold or infection, keeping them healthy and happy. And the pride of owning shoes, combined with the necessity of a complete school uniform keeps them in school and learning.
Bobs for Good will be sending a team along to the Put Foot Rally to donate shoes to children en route. So, while Africa changes your life, you can change the lives of young Africans.
