2oceansvibe has always made it very clear that, as much as we would like to, we simply cannot help everyone and so we share our charitable efforts between the BobsForGood & MyLife causes. There are however some cases that occur so close to home that it would be unnatural not to make the most of this platform and help out.
These kind of situations are obviously a great opportunity for the 2oceansvibers out there to ‘do their bit,’ safe in the knowledge that they are supporting something genuine and something very much a part of the vibe.
In other words, I’ve got a stack of good karma here, and it’s all gotta go!
Please spare a moment and read about young Natalie below.
Below is an excerpt from the website Natalie’s family has made, to facilitate this donation drive. Check it out here.
Welcome to Natalie’s Circle of Love.
On the 5th January 2011, Natalie was diagnosed with a very rare form of bone cancer, Chordoma, along the thoracic section of her spine.
Natalie underwent emergency surgery to relieve the pressure of the tumor on her windpipe, and now we are preparing to travel abroad for further surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct her spine. The surgery is very complex, and involves a multi-disciplinary team of top surgeons. Very few surgical teams globally have this level of skill and experience, but we managed to connect with three very proficient teams, two in the USA and one in Europe.
After much research and soul searching, we are traveling to Boston USA where the multidisciplinary team of world class doctors have developed a treatment plan to meet her unique needs. At Massachusetts General Hospital Natalie will undergo pre-operative Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) – a specialised form of radiation. Surgery will follow some time in April, and once Natalie is rested and has recovered from the operation, she will have further PBT.
The surgery and PBT treatment are very expensive, and we will be away from home for a long period of time.
Financially, we are simply not in a position to absorb the costs – expected to be between R2-3m – and our hospital plan only covers basic expenses in South Africa.
So any support, however big or small, is deeply appreciated.
With all your love and prayers and generosity, we know our daughter is held in a divine circle of love.
With humility and gratitude,
Shirley Lowe & Jonny Cohen
PS We have started a blog found in ‘Follow Natalie’s Journey’, and some more about Natalie along with a photo gallery found in Natalie.
