The reality of crime is far different from the world of television. For a start, very few criminals do much planning ahead of the time. They’ve usually got below average IQs, and tend to leave so much evidence of their crimes behind that the crime scene investigators need bin bags and shovels to collect it all.

Timothy James Chapek belongs to this breed of criminal. I call this type of criminal the “Cowardly Moron”.

Tim decided to gain access to someone’s property illegally, the reasons are unclear, but stealing stuff seems probable. He then decided, while he’s at it, to have a shower in the owner’s bathroom. The owner then returned, with two rather fierce German Shepherds by his side.

Fearing for his life, Mr. Chapek locked himself in the bathroom and dialed 911. He told the operator that he had broken into the house and that he was afraid that the owner may have a gun.

Timothy has been charged with criminal trespassing.

But this is not the end of the story. I have discovered that the criminal mastermind was also arrested in January for another crime.

As you can see, barely two months later he was arrested again and now he looks very cross indeed.

There’s probably not enough mystery here for an episode of “Murder She Wrote” though.
