With 39 missions and 13 visits to the International Space Station, time is finally up for the Space Shuttle Discovery. To commemorate the occasion NASA held a competition to determine which two songs will be played during Discovery’s last mission.
The theme From Star Trek was chosen and William Shatner, who as you know played Captain James Tiberius Kirk in the original series, did a special voice-over.
The description from NASA reads:
As Alexander Courage’s theme song played underneath, Shatner replaced the original television introduction with, “Space, the final frontier. These have been the voyages of the Space Shuttle Discovery. Her 30 year mission: To seek out new science. To build new outposts. To bring nations together on the final frontier. To boldly go, and do, what no spacecraft has done before.”
