Take us to your leader. We come in peace. ET phone home. They don’t say much, but they sure know how to get to the point! ‘The X-Files’ knew “The Truth Is Out There” with dramatised cases of real government conspiracies and where there’s smoke, there’s a smouldering alien spacecraft. Don’t just take it from Steven Spielberg, Wicus was also onto something – those “vokken prawns” are everywhere! They’re amongst us – breathing our oxygen, weaving between cars on their battle pods and multiplying in numbers as the Argus Cycle Tour rapidly approaches.
If that ‘District 9’ “documentary” was Phase 1, ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ (at Ster Kinekor 11 March) is Phase 2… showing what a full-scale war with the unknown invaders will really look and feel like from a marine’s perspective. Imagine ‘District 9’ and ‘Cloverfield’ spawned little alien babies and you’ll start to get what we’re up against. For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But on 11 March 2011, we’ll discover a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown alien forces. We’ve ignored all the UFO sightings, abductees, warning signs and doomsday prophets. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles will become the last bastion of hope for mankind in a battle to rewrite history. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant and his new platoon to take up arms in a final stand to take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before!

‘Battle: Los Angeles’ stars some of LA’s finest in Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez and Bridget Moynahan, with a special appearance from R&B crooner, Ne-Yo. Eckhart leads the squad, an experienced combatant, best known for ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Thank You For Smoking’ and ‘Paycheck’. A seasoned campaigner, Eckhart lends his star power and versatility to ‘Battle: Los Angeles’. He’s supported by Michelle Rodriguez of ‘Machete’, ‘Resident Evil’ and ‘Avatar’ notoriety, who combines her natural acting talents with effortless sex appeal. She’s the tough second-in-command, an angel who doesn’t take crap and does all the bitch-slapping. The gorgeous and equally talented Bridget Moynahan rounds off the cast, known for her roles in ‘Lord of War’, ‘The Recruit’ and ‘I, Robot’.
This alien invasion epic is directed by our very own Jonathan Liebesman, a South African director, whose film credits include horrors, Darkness Falls and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Just like Neill Blomkamp, it’s an alien science-fiction actioner that has firmly entrenched him in Hollywood and he’s already started filming ‘Wrath of the Titans’, a sequel to ‘Clash of the Titans’ making him a director to watch out for in 2011. ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ is an alien invasion on the same scale as ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘Independence Day’. The battleground takes alien invasions back to the United States, combining first-rate special effects and a apocalyptic experience to recreate a war zone of interplanetary proportions.
They’re coming… 11 March, 2011 at Ster Kinekor.
