The first part of the South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) took place over the weekend. Since no one got to see it, you’ll have to take my word for it that All Access walked away with the Best Magazine Show prize. But now our local television warrior, TV with Thinus, is reporting that M-Net is planning to axe the show.
As in, the show that just won them an award.
Meaning it is a very good thing for M-Net.
Just checking if my logic is still intact…
Can you spot the “demographically correct” presenters? I’ll give you a clue – it is not one of the guys, neither is it the girl in the blue dress.
Thinus reckons that the show will only be on the air until the end of March. And he claims “multiple sources” are telling him that the last episode will be screened on M-Net on the 1st of April. He goes on to say that another source tells him that there is an outside chance that All Access might be resurrected on Mzansi Magic (DStv 107).
No, I also did not know such a channel existed on DSTV.
But even this alternative will come with its own spice. There is speculation that All Access‘s only chance of a resurrection is if ”demographically correct” presenters are signed to the show.
This is M-Net’s official response:
All locally produced content like All Access contracts are for a fixed period of time. These contracts will near an end towards the end of the fiscal year (April) and M-Net withholds the right to renew them or not. The main focus for the channel in 2011 is the major reality shows (Survivor SA and Idols) and the new soap (The Wild) but this does not necessarily mean that All Access will fall away from the schedule permanently.
