We discovered Danny MacAskill in 2009, here and here. He was the antidote to the prawn carnage that we’d been suffering all over Cape Town for some time. Since then the video that he posted (Danny MacAskill-April 2009) has reached nearly 24 million YouTube hits. While MacAskill’s new video, released three months ago, has 7 million hits and counting. Even if you know squat about bikes or urban stunts, there’s no way you won’t be inspired. This guys got some serious moves. And as one observant YouTuber comments,”he does trails better than a walk”.
The 26 year old Scotsman became a YouTube sensation over night and is a street trail pro rider for Inspired Bicycles. His new video, ” Way Back Home” was released last year November and is sponsored by Red Bull. The video showcases MacAskill doing sick urban stunts in locations around Scotland including Edinburgh Castle, North Berwick, wartime bunkers on the island of Inchgarvie, beneath the Forth Bridge and a hydro-electric power station in the Scottish Highlands. It is a beautifully shot eight minutes.
The pure time, energy and practice he must put into training deserves major respect. But the danger involved…Some would say he defies death every day. All I can say is he’s got balls. Big ones.
