You may know by now that top cop and original Gansta, Bheki Cele, has been found guilty by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela of improper conduct for entering into a R500 million lease for a Pretoria building intended to host a new SAPS headquarters.
But luckily for him, his good friends in government have his back.
The ANC has said that it is “opportunistic” for opposition parties to call for the firing of the esteemed national Police Commissioner General.
Spokesman for the ANC and part-time drunk, Jackson Mthembu, said:
We note that the violation of public administration laws, in terms of the public protector’s conclusion on the matter, does not necessarily amount to a criminal finding.
It is, therefore, very opportunistic in the extreme for the Democratic Alliance and other opposition parties to call for the firing of national police commissioner Bheki Cele and Public Works Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde who should now be taking corrective measures to rectify any flaws in the lease agreement.
Now I know what a lot of people might say to this, but if this happened in any other country where they bothered about trifling matters, like the law, Cele would have had his ass handed to him by now.
But alack, alas, we have a president who is very keen on the idea of rooting out corruption, just so long as he never finds any.
