Shrien Dewani has been hospitalised after taking an overdose of unspecified pills in an apparent suicide attempt.

Dewani, who was absent from both of his extradition hearings due to “medical ailments”, has reportedly lost over 12 kilograms since allegations of his contract killing of his wife, Anni Dewani, emerged in November 2010.

Family members, as well as the great deceiver family spokesperson and controversial publicist Max Clifford, have reported that Shrien has had trouble sleeping and eating and shaving and so on.

He was placed on suicide watch in January 2011.
