When it comes to the window business, double glazing seems to be a cut-throat affair. A London company offering such services has been accused of doing pretty much anything to land a contract; from threatening old-timers with fines and “green taxes”, and even making death threats.
The Leicestershire company, Bowater, allegedly phones elderly people and tells them that they have qualified for a government grant to have their windows replaced. When the person responds with “not interested”, they turn up the heat and claim that the phone call was “being recorded and they would be reported to their district council”. But like all good call centre leeches, if this doesn’t work either, they bring out the big guns. The caller is then threatened https://safemdonline.com/zoloft.html with a fictitious “green tax” and the “cancellation of his or her single occupancy council tax reduction”. In one case, a resident was threatened with a £1,000 fine if “they did not complete a survey of older people in the area”. See what they did there?
Uncle Paul Shipman, furiously wagging his cane, said: “The salesman started out saying that there were new British standards and I needed new windows but when I showed no interest, he threatened me with a green tax. When that didn’t work, he threatened to put my head in a vice and watch me bleed to death.”
It looks like this company is one windowpane away from their own HBO TV show, starring these guys:
