This story is a couple of days old, but I really feel it’s worth telling. In April 2009 a girl called Jemma Benjamin collapsed and died mere moments after kissing her new boyfriend, Daniel Ross.
The cause of death was apparently “sudden adult death syndrome”, which kills around 500 people in Britain each year.
In the current inquest being held it was reported that Benjamin had no cardiac problems, but that she was under stress from upcoming exams. Daniel Ross said that when she collapsed she started going in and out of consciousness and foaming at the mouth.
To be entirely honest I don’t like the idea that the best medical science has come up with is to call what happened in this case, “sudden adult death syndrome”.
If there’s one syndrome you don’t want it’s this one.
