As you’re all well aware by now, it’s just not our prerogative here at 2oceansvibe to support brands that don’t follow the ethics and values that we uphold. Once again something unnecessary has been brought to our attention that we need to tell you about – “force field” insect repelling plugs for your home or flat.
There is a good chance that you will have heard about or inadvertently stumbled across the long running advertising campaigns purporting the now debunked repelling devices actually created a force field in your home.
What was this force field doing? It was allegedly making use of your homes electrical circuit to create an invisible protection ring that would deter things like mosquitoes and even rats.
Lies, said an electrical engineer member of the public that took his complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). Our man basically explained to the ASA that this force field creation in your home was simply impossible and utter nonsense.
The ASA then promptly explained this to Homemark, (the company responsible for marketing “massive electrical force field” product, Pest Magic) who submitted a report from “Uwe Nusser, an engineering technologist who claimed to have researched the product.”
Basically Pest Magic was told to remove “force field” from their marketing material because even Nusser expressed his concerns about the impossibility of the term.
There is still however some substance to the fact that the ultrasonic emissions some devices make use of might in fact work to repel unwanted pests, but rather just buy the one that uses pads.
