Huh. Well, alright. UK church officials have given the holy thumbs up to ‘Confession: A Roman Catholic App,’ which walks users through sacrament, having them admit their wrongdoings – and keep track of their sins. Please keep your comments until the end of the lecture, though, because this baby costs $1.99
It’s great, though! You go through a check-list of all your sins, find out what your penance quota is, and boom it’s lunch time. I hear that the next version lets you sync your rosaries with iCal.
In an interview with Reuters, Patrick Leinen of Little iApps, the Confession developer, said:
“Our desire is to invite Catholics to engage in their faith through digital technology… Taking to heart Pope Benedict XVI’s message from last years’ World Communications Address, our goal with this project is to offer a digital application that is truly ‘new media at the service of the word'”
Also, if you miss confession, it’s nice to have the choice between vague guilt and paying $2 for your phone to make you feel better.
This isn’t the first confession-based app, but it is the first to get the priestly stamp of approval – and we know how much we all rely on the church for tech news.
