Now, when I was in my single-digit years every ‘nerdy’ kid I knew went through “the dinosaur phase”. We had books, figures and stories, but nobody had given us a film. Steven Spielberg brought it to us. I can safely say that the 1993 dinosaur-athon, Jurassic Park, is probably the most memorable cinematic experience I’ve ever had. Seriously, sitting in downtown a Swansea cinema, as a six-year-old obsessed with Velociraptors gave me such a buzz. I just had to give my four-year-old boet the biggest earful when he came out of Bambi. You see he was too young to watch it with my folks and I and even at that tender age he had a slight case BIMO (Blast, I Missed Out!).

I bring this up because Spielberg is bringing a new prehistoric experience to our screens this year, as he puts the final production touches on the series Terra Nova. Each episode will cost a cool $4million to produce, so it’s bound to alter minds. Here’s a snippet of the official synopsis.

TERRA NOVA follows an ordinary family on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a daring experiment to save the human race. In the year 2149, the world is dying. The planet is overdeveloped and overcrowded, with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. The future of mankind is in doubt, and its only hope for survival is in the distant past.

When scientists at the FERMI Particle Accelerator unexpectedly discovered a fracture in time that made it possible to construct a portal into primeval history, the bold notion was born to resettle humanity in the past – a second chance to rebuild civilization and get it right this time.

According to FOX: “These adventurers soon discover that this healthy, vibrant world is not as idyllic as it initially appears. The areas surrounding Terra Nova are filled with dangerous dinosaurs, and other prehistoric threats, as well as external forces that may be intent on destroying this new world before it begins. But perhaps even more threatening than what lies outside the protective walls is the Shannons’ realization that something sinister may be happening inside Terra Nova as not everyone on this mission has the same intentions of how best to save mankind.” Irie.

I’m particularly revved about this series, but pundits are trying their best to kill my vibe, saying that this is coming along 10 years too late. Well listen here pundits: You have to back a guy that has Schindler’s List, Jaws and Saving Private Ryan in his filmmaking repertoire. The executive producers have assured the public that this show will be “nothing like Lost”. Thank god, because that show just never ended.
