Now we’re all aware that Steven Pienaar made his high profile move down from Merseyside a few weeks back and if your memory hasn’t recently been erased you will recall that Bafana Bafana’s Bongani Khumalo also recently completed his relocation to the Lane.
Stevie P has been the product of excellent management during his career dating all the way back to his few years with Ajax Cape Town. His attitude towards the game is top-notch and his dedication to his craft has paid off. He was the proverbial big fish under David Moyes and is now one of many big ‘uns at Spurs. He’s within an incredibly competitive environment, amongst a quality squad that is enjoying the glamorous possibilities of Champions League football. Not a bad promotion for the lad.
It seems as though BK is going to learn the ropes the hard way after an unfortunate start to life under Harry Redknapp’s eye. According to a journo at the Daily Mail, BK and Stevie P had a clash of heads during a training exercise, sidelining the latter for two weeks. Proof that like every big promotion, the real experience comes when you make that calamitous error.
“Our other South African Bongani thought Steven’s head was the ball and knocked him unconscious in training,” Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said.
“He is fit to play. I think the Premier League is better than the South African league,” said the manager. “I know it’s been compared to it but I just think it is a better league than the South African Division 1. There is a difference.
“He has to get used to the Premier League so let’s hope he does. It isn’t a case of adapting, it’s a case of whether you’re good enough.
“He is a fantastic boy who we think has a good chance of being a really good player so we have taken him, and he has come from South Africa and we love him to bits.
“He wants to be a player but he is a young kid really who has got lots to learn – but he wants to learn and he has the raw talent.
“We were going to loan him out to a Championship team, and that would have been good for him, but he is now in my squad because of players being injured.”
So there you have it. BK has had the type of start to his Spurs career that every coffee-carrier dreams of and you can be certain that once the dust has settled, he won’t hear the end of it from his new teammates.
But despite this mishap, it is with immense pride for us back home to hear Harry “I’m not a wheeler-and-dealer f@%k off” Redknapp praise his attitude and raw talent. That’s the real story here folks. Stellar vibe BK.
