No jokes. Oh yes, there will be no Joker third time round either. Heath Ledger’s impossible-to-top performance and subsequent death last time around pretty much did it for the Joker. Which means there’s space for a new villain. A guy named Bane. Bane was born in a Caribbean prison where he hid a knife in his teddy bear. Bane is bad.

Batman 3 : The Dark Knight Rises is only set for release in 2012 but pre-production is in full swing. Tantrum prone Christian Bale is again in the lead role of a cast also featuring Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Michale Cane as the butler/confident Alfred. Tom Hardy plays Bane. But who is this Bane?

Bane was cooked up in the mind of Batman writer Dennis O’Neil who – no doubt with the help of narcotics – linked a Caribbean island to wrestling and rolled those two into a character named Bane with hair on his back.

So after Bane shook the horror of watching both his mom and his teddy being eaten by sharks, he headed to Gotham City to take on the only man who can defeat him: Batman. Does Bane beat Batman to rule over Gotham, the city of fear? Does he notice the bat suit under Bruce Wayne’s bathrobe? Does he find a new teddy? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out.
