Let this be a cautionary tale to anyone contemplating joining a mind-altering cult, and subsequently opening fire and mortally wounding police officers. The buddies of the deceased will be pissed, and they’ll try really hard to find you, and when they do, they’re going to take the first chance they get to lawfully shoot you to sponge. Sometimes they skip straight to the shooting.

Unconfirmed reports are that the loopy, cultist French couple who shot a Sutherland police officer being fleeing into the Karoo wilderness have died in a shootout with police. They were reportedly tracked to a building on Hardie farm in Sutherland, at which point they chose French passion over calm rationality, and engaged in trading fire with the police, til death.

Anyone could have told you it would have ended like this. Remember Bonnie and Clyde?

“Each of us six officers had a shotgun and an automatic rifle and pistols. We opened fire with the automatic rifles. They were emptied before the car got even with us. Then we used shotguns … There was smoke coming from the car, and it looked like it was on fire. After shooting the shotguns, we emptied the pistols at the car, which had passed us and ran into a ditch about 50 yards on down the road. It almost turned over. We kept shooting at the car even after it stopped. We weren’t taking any chances.”^[104]

Some today say Bonnie and Clyde were shot more than 50 times,^[25] others claim closer to 25 wounds per corpse, or 50 total.^[112]Officially,  the tally in Parish coroner Dr. J. L. Wade’s 1934 report listed seventeen separate entrance wounds on Barrow’s body and twenty-six on Parker’s,^[113] including several headshots on each, and one that had snapped Barrow’s spinal column. So numerous were the bullet holes that undertaker C. F. “Boots” Bailey would have difficulty embalming the bodies because they wouldn’t contain the embalming fluid.^[114]

Philippe Meniére and his life partner, Agnes Jardel could be regarded as criminal copycats on some level.

There is definitely a movie coming out of this. I’m not sure if you know, but I’ve already shotgunned the screenplay rights.
