Over the last few days many a report has been circulating claiming that the great proponent of Zimbabwean democracy and all round nice guy Robert Mugabe may be on the dying-side of things. Mugabe’s illness was reported by Britain’s Daily Telegraph; apparently he is in Malaysia, recovering from having the old prostate removed.
Not so says Rugare Gumbo, Zanu PF spokesman. According to Gumbo?: “That is speculation. There are people who wish the president dead and they think that’s a good way of damaging his excellency. The truth is that the president goes on leave every year. He goes to Malaysia every year for Christmas and New Year. So as far as we know, he is still there and we don’t know anything about the operation.”
And who are we to question Zanu PF spokesmen? After all they imbue all the integrity of 100 King Solomons.
But there is more to the tale. The Cape Times has reported that Mugabe’s health has raised concerns in the Military ranks and they’re already spoiling for a fight.
Exciting times in Zimbabwe I say unless, I suppose, you’re starving to death due to all the excitement.
